SCULPTING DREAMS INTO REALITY

INCORPORATING A RUSTIC FEEL

Sometimes it's fun to change things up a bit a add some "rustic" style to a house.

Think desert sunset colors, sandy tones, rough stone or heavy raw beams. It doesn't have to be woodsy, but the contrast between the soft, seashore style and a stronger more Earthy style can be very cool.

In recent years, we have seen a lot of these colors, patterns and materials make a comeback. Personally, I'm a big fan. The best part is that you don't have to dive in 100%. A touch here and there and do wonders.

Here are a few suggestions that have really stood out lately:

1. Add some painted brick in a powder bath or as a backsplash behind the stove.
2. Use heavy beams in a master bedroom or living room.
3. Use natural, rough stones on a fireplace surround or on an outside firepit.
4. Use Earthy, darker paint colors as accent walls.
5. Consider wood and stone tile in rooms as an accent band or wall.
6. Allow natural, unpainted wood to work as the front for cabinets or a kitchen island.
7. And my favorite... reclaimed, natural wood as a flooring material.
